Partner Stephen G. Larson is recognized as one of the “Top White Collar Lawyers” of 2021 by Daily Journal, California’s preeminent legal newspaper.
The annual special edition honors the state’s leading white collar defenders.
Stephen’s profile highlights his career successes at trial defending white collar clients and his current roster of cases, including his most recent trial victory when he won acquittal for a military officer. The case “highlights the breadth of his practice and his firm’s ability to succeed in any courtroom,” Daily Journal observes, and “his work was just as wide ranging earlier in his career as the head of the U.S. attorney office’s organized crime section and then as a U.S. district court judge.”
“I’ve always emphasized that as trial lawyers, you become better lawyers by having a diverse practice,” Stephen states in his profile, “[to be able to] successfully litigate both criminal and civil cases, to be able to handle appeals, to be able to handle basically anything that involves a courtroom.”
As for his upcoming trials, the profile notes his March 2022 defense of the University of Southern California’s former water polo coach in the “Varsity Blues” college admissions case and his February 2022 defense of a health information tech startup’s former president against allegations of involvement in a billion-dollar fraud scheme. He also has a preliminary hearing on the books for January 2022 in which he is “defending a tax agent charged alongside former Los Angeles County tax assessor John Noguez in a 75-count public corruption conspiracy case and companion tax evasion matter,” the second preliminary hearing “after [Stephen] and partner Kori L. Bell won an appeal dismissing all charges” the profile explains, which were later refiled.
“I enjoy the diversity of practice. In a world of increasing specialization, I enjoy being a litigator, a trial lawyer who handles anything that involves the courtroom.”
