Rick Richmond Named Again as a Leading Commercial Litigator

Larson Partner Rick Richmond

Larson partner Rick Richmond is recognized by the Los Angeles Daily Journal as a “Leading Commercial Litigator” for the second year in a row.

The Daily Journal’s list features the best commercial litigators trying high-stakes cases nationwide. Rick’s profile in the annual supplement highlights his 35 years of experience, two California Lawyer of the Year Awards, and a recent win for a cattle rancher in Northern California.

Rick recently achieved a major victory for his client, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, when an en banc panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled 11-0 to dismiss a lawsuit brought by a former member seeking the return of tithed donations. The en banc court found that the Church accurately represented its use of earnings on invested reserved funds for commercial projects, rejecting the ex-member’s assertion of fraud. Two concurring opinions focused on the First Amendment’s protections for religious organizations against such attacks. The en banc decision is likely to have national implications in affirming how religious organizations use the voluntary contributions they receive from members.

While Rick is widely recognized for his trial victories, he’s also known in the legal community for taking on difficult cases that other lawyers have been unable to resolve. Rick has prosecuted and defended hundreds of crucial, cutting-edge disputes in federal and state courts, federal and local administrative proceedings, and private arbitrations. His practice includes a wide range of civil matters, often involving breach of contract, fraud, complex partnership and other business relationships, and class actions.
