The Daily Journal‘s annual special edition recognizes the best commercial and bet-the-company litigators nationwide.
Partner Rick Richmond is recognized in the 2024 issue of “Leading Commercial Litigators” by the Daily Journal, the state’s leading legal newspaper. Rick was selected to this list for his successes throughout his 35-year career of handling complex, high-stakes litigation, as well as for his leading role in the Jogani v. Jogani trial, which the Daily Journal describes as a “pivotal litigation in California for 2023-24.”
Rick’s profile highlights his role as lead defense counsel for Haresh Jogani in one of the oldest civil cases in Los Angeles County valued at more than $5 billion. Mr. Jogani is a real estate owner who is involved a dispute with his four brothers who have sought to encroach on his multi-billion-dollar real estate portfolio and profits. The jury will ultimately be asked to decide whether or not an alleged oral partnership exists between the brothers.
The trial, which started in September 2023, involves “dozens of witnesses, hundreds of exhibits, evidence of complicated business transactions around the world and translations from English to Gujarati back to English,” Rick said to the Daily Journal. Rick is preparing to deliver closing arguments in the landmark case, which he notes “will be critical in helping the jury understand – and remember – what has happened during the course of the trial.”
