Partner Hilary Potashner is recognized as one of the “Top White Collar Lawyers” of 2023 by Daily Journal.
Daily Journal’s annual list honors the top-performing attorneys specializing in white collar defense. Hilary’s profile emphasizes her extensive experience with state, federal, and appellate courts, which has helped her achieve success in her white-collar practice.
In one of her recent cases, she was responsible for negotiating a non-prosecution agreement for a high-level administrator who was under investigation for a serious reporting violation. She was able to reach a resolution after carrying out a thorough investigation into the facts and relevant laws. Hilary states in her profile, “When proactive and skillful preparation is coupled with persuasive advocacy and professionalism, there is an increased chance of a just and fair outcome.“
Daily Journal further notes her significant role in the investigation of the Riverside County Foster Care System and their mistreatment of the 13 Turpin children. This investigation lasted for eight months and was conducted alongside Stephen G. Larson. As a result of their work, a 634-page report was produced with recommendations for changes to the system, which greatly influenced social services in California, and statewide policies were implemented.
Hilary’s profile includes her perspectives on how the white-collar defense practice has been impacted by innovations in the tech space. She notes, “As crypto has become a ‘borderless’ currency, transactions take place instantly and across several borders, posing new challenges for lawyers who are faced with determining the correct jurisdiction for prosecution, the relevant enforcement agencies to regulate, and how to approach investigations.”
Larson congratulates Hilary and all of this year’s honorees! See the full list of the “Top White Collar Lawyers” on the Daily Journal website here and Hilary’s full profile here (subscription required).
