Larson is pleased to congratulate partner Hilary Potashner on her inclusion in the Los Angeles Daily Journal’s “Top Women Lawyers” list for the third consecutive year. Hilary’s career includes a successful track record representing companies, counties and individuals in civil and criminal matters, as well as two decades of service as a public defender.
The annual issue profiles the best 100 women lawyers practicing in California. In this year’s edition, Hilary discusses her path to the law, beginning with an interest in social work and a desire to advocate for homeless clients of a nonprofit she worked for. The profile highlights her appointment as a federal defender for the Central District of California, and her successful transition to Larson to take on white-collar defenses, investigations, and complex civil cases.
“I loved being a defender. It was an honor and a privilege. There’s a very high level of practice in the Central District,” Hilary told the Daily Journal, noting that moving to a law firm has expanded her practice to both civil and criminal matters, state and federal courts, and trials and appeals.
Hilary also discussed a recent win for a major law firm and one of its partners, which ended in a full dismissal with prejudice for the client and a cost award of more than $200,000. Other recent notable matters include a highly-publicized investigation and analysis of the care that the Turpin children received from Riverside County, and representation of a businessman charged with conspiracy to commit International Emergency Economic Powers Act violations and money laundering.
